How it works
Rotation that never crops or distorts
Rotation here is a pure pixel rearrangement: a 90° turn maps every pixel to a new position, so nothing is stretched, cropped, or resampled. Pressing "Rotate right" twice equals a 180° turn; four presses return to the start. Flips mirror the image along the vertical (horizontal flip) or horizontal (vertical flip) axis — handy for selfies taken with a mirrored front camera or for images that will be printed as transfers. The preview canvas always shows the exact pixel layout you will download.
Quality and re-encoding
The rotation itself costs nothing, but the download writes a fresh file, and that means re-encoding. For PNG and lossless WebP this is a non-issue. For JPEG — which most photos are — re-encoding discards a little more detail, so the quality slider defaults to 90: high enough that the loss is invisible while still shrinking large camera files. Export as PNG if you need a bit-exact rotation of a graphic with transparency; export as WebP for the smallest photographic files.
The EXIF orientation problem
Many phones save a portrait photo as landscape pixels plus an EXIF "orientation" flag saying "display me rotated." Most modern viewers honor the flag — but email clients, old software, and some websites do not, which is why a photo looks fine on your phone and sideways everywhere else. This tool rotates the actual pixel data and writes a file with no orientation flag to be misread, so the image is genuinely upright everywhere it opens.
Frequently asked questions
Does rotating an image lose quality?
Rotation itself is lossless: the pixels are only rearranged, not recompressed. However, the download re-encodes the image to JPG, PNG, or WebP, and JPEG re-encoding discards a little detail. If your source is a JPEG, keep the quality slider at 90 or above to make the loss imperceptible, or export as PNG/WebP.
What about EXIF orientation — my phone photo is sideways?
Phone cameras often record orientation as an EXIF flag instead of rotating the pixels, and some viewers ignore it. This tool reads the decoded pixels as the browser presents them and rotates the actual pixel data, then saves a file whose pixels are genuinely upright — no EXIF flag to be misread later.
Can I rotate multiple images at once?
