A free image toolkit with a simple idea: your files should never have to leave your device to get converted.
Why we built this
Most online image tools work the same way: you upload your photos to someone's server, wait, then download the result. That means trusting a stranger with your pictures — family photos, documents, screenshots of private things.
Formatly flips that around. It's a static website with no backend, so there is literally nowhere for your files to go. Conversion, compression, resizing, EXIF stripping and PDF building all run in your browser using standard web APIs. Close the tab and nothing remains.
What it costs
Nothing. No accounts, no subscriptions, no watermarks, no "free tier" limits designed to upsell you. A static site costs almost nothing to host, so we can afford to keep it free.
How it's made
Formatly is built with Astro as a fully static site and vanilla JavaScript. It uses your browser's built-in image encoders plus a handful of open-source libraries (libheif-js, utif.js, pdf-lib, exifr, jszip) that all run locally on your device. System fonts only — no webfont downloads, no trackers.
