How it works
How to select a precise area
Click (or touch) anywhere on the preview and drag — a rectangle follows your pointer while the dimmed overlay shows what will be cut away. The readout under the preview reports the selection's exact pixel size as you drag. If you mis-drag, simply drag again or press "Reset selection" to start over. You need a selection of at least 1 × 1 pixel before the download button activates.
Aspect ratios for social media
Ratio presets lock your rectangle to a fixed shape as you drag — the height is recalculated from the width automatically. 1:1 gives square posts, 9:16 matches Stories and Reels, 16:9 suits thumbnails and banners, and 4:3 / 3:4 cover classic landscape and portrait photos. Switching presets clears the current selection so the new shape always applies cleanly.
Export quality note
Your crop is cut from the full-resolution original and then encoded fresh — the tool never works from a downscaled copy. For photos, JPEG or WebP at quality 90–100 keeps detail with a small file; PNG is lossless and best for graphics, text, or screenshots. "Keep original" reuses the input's format when it is JPEG, PNG, or WebP.
Frequently asked questions
Does cropping reduce image quality?
Cropping itself only removes pixels — it never degrades what remains. The final quality depends on the export: choose PNG for a lossless result, or JPEG/WebP at quality 90+ for photos. Keep the quality slider high and the cropped area will look exactly as sharp as the original.
What do the aspect ratio presets mean?
They lock your selection to a fixed shape while you drag. 1:1 is a perfect square (Instagram posts), 4:3 is the classic photo shape, 3:4 is its portrait version, 16:9 is widescreen (YouTube thumbnails), and 9:16 is the tall Story/Reel shape. "Free" lets you select any shape at all.
Can I crop to exact pixel dimensions?
The editor shows your selection’s exact width and height in pixels as you drag, so you can size it precisely. If you need an exact output size, crop first and then run the result through the Resize Images tool — or pick a ratio preset, crop generously, and resize down.
Which formats can I export the crop as?
"Keep original" preserves JPG, PNG, or WebP from the input file, and you can also explicitly export as JPEG, PNG, or WebP. Canvas-based export cannot produce GIF or AVIF files, so those inputs are converted to whichever format you choose.
Are my images uploaded anywhere?
No. The image is decoded, cropped, and re-encoded entirely in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server, there is no account or queue, and the page works offline once it has loaded.
