How it works
Watermarks, honestly
A watermark is a deterrent and a credit line, not a lock. This tool renders your text directly into the image pixels at full resolution, so the downloaded file carries it permanently — but anyone determined enough can crop or clone over any visible mark. For the strongest practical protection, use a short identifier (your name or domain), place it over a detailed part of the photo rather than flat sky, and pick an opacity around 50–70%: readable, but not shouting over your own work.
Position and readability
Corners are the classic choice and the least intrusive; the center is the hardest to crop away. White text with the soft built-in shadow stays legible on most photos — switch to black on very bright images. Text size is in pixels relative to the full image, and the preview shows the true output, so zoom out mentally: if it looks balanced in the preview, it will look balanced in the download.
Export quality
"Keep original" preserves your input format. If you export as JPEG, quality 90+ keeps the photo crisp and the text edges clean; PNG is pixel-perfect at the cost of larger files. Either way, keep your unwatermarked original archived — you cannot cleanly remove the text from the exported copy later.
Frequently asked questions
Will the watermark be permanently burned into the image?
Yes — the download is a flattened copy with your text rendered into the pixels, so it cannot be removed from the exported file. Keep your original unwatermarked photo archived separately if you might need a clean version later.
Can someone remove the watermark from my photo?
Any visible watermark can be cropped out or painted over with enough effort — no watermark is truly unremovable. For real protection, place the text over a busy part of the image, use moderate opacity, and consider tiling it. Think of watermarks as a deterrent and a credit line, not DRM.
What text works best as a watermark?
Your name, brand, or website (e.g. "© Your Name" or "yourbrand.com"). Short text in a clean sans-serif at 5–8% of the image width stays readable without dominating the photo. Corners are classic; the center is harder to crop out.
Does watermarking reduce image quality?
Only in the normal way re-encoding does: exporting as JPEG re-compresses the photo, so use quality 90+ or export as PNG for a pixel-perfect result. The watermark text itself is rendered crisply at full resolution.
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No. The preview rendering and the final export both happen locally in your browser with the Canvas API. Your photos never leave your device.
